Chichi from dragonball :3
How I feel about this character: I have such great affection for Chichi! The way fandom gets on her case for being a good mother really frustrates me because, seriously, what mother wants her son to grow up and know only fighting and not having a good education that will actually get him somewhere in life in times of peace? I think a lot of what Chichi faces is that her family is surrounded by people who want to do nothing but fight and that’s a powerful pressure on Gohan, so she has to put in all this effort to pull him back from that, because he’ll be lost to it otherwise. I deeply empathize with feeling like you’re up against this tidal wave of influence and how hard you have to push against it, just to give the kid a real chance at a good life. And you know what? Chichi was there for Gohan, every single goddamned day. You know who wasn’t? Goku. I love Goku, I do. But he was a terrible father, fucking off all the time with barely a backwards glance as he went. So fuck anyone who says Chichi is horrible. She’s not. (I get rather protective of her. It’s fine to not like her, but I think fandom needs to get off her case more often.)
All the people I ship romantically with this character: Goku/Chichi OTP FOR LIFE, oh god they are so adorable. Sometimes I think it shouldn’t work, that Chichi deserves someone who actually sticks around and is more responsible, but then I see the way they look at each other and they just love each other so much and their eyes when they’re gazing at each other…! They hit every romantic bone in my body, goddammit.
My non-romantic OTP for this character: I wish Bulma and Chichi had gotten more time to be friends together because I’m sure they must have had mutual complaining sessions about the troubles of living with Saiyajin and having half-Saiyan kids and, JESUS, DO THEY EVER STOP EATING? (No. No, they don’t.)
My unpopular opinion about this character: Is “GTFO if you’re a hater” an unpopular opinion?
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I wish Chichi had gotten more screentime and a more flattering look post-time skip. I realize Toriyama felt like he couldn’t write romance very well, but that doesn’t mean she had to just completely fall by the wayside! She still had so much potential! She was one of those women who was completely human but still managed to go toe-to-toe with the Saiyajin and not blink! I also once saw a bit of headcanon where Vejiita and Chichi had this thing where it was an unspoken contest between them—to see who would back down first: Vejiita eating everything she could cook up and throw at him or Chichi throwing in the towel when she couldn’t make anything more. I LOVED THAT IDEA, it was so perfect for both of them and I loved that, yes, of course Vejiita would totally respect her for not backing down like that.
