I KNEW EVENTUALLY THERE WOULD BE KORRA FIC I LIKED.

Serious Business by snappleducated

“Why are you telling my this?” Korra interrupted, “Please stop. I need your help with entering the Avatar state so I can talk to your dad about my problem.”

Tenzin sputtered, “My father? Avatar Aang?”

“Yep.”

The top of Tenzin’s head was beginning to darken, “The Avatar state is the most sacred of your inheritances and you would abuse it to talk about boys?”

“I’ll tell him you said hello,” Korra held up her hands, looking defensive.

AND THEN SHE GOES TO TALK TO AANG ABOUT BOYSAND IT IS AMAZING.  It’s a gorgeous mix of everything I wanted from TLoK fic—Korra being amazing, Tenzin holding onto his dignity with a deathgrip while Aang totally destroys it from the beyond without even trying, adorable Aang/Katara moments, oh my gosh Aang’s feelings for Katara are so sweet!!, and Korra being a delight about trying to reach the Spirit World and her feelings for Mako.  It’s hilarious but also true to the characters and ugh FEELINGS everywhere for me.  (Aang/Katara, Tenzin/Pema, Mako/Korra.)

Which FFVIII fic have you read? I trust your taste!

Some of the ones I remember really liking:
Devotion by DK - (warning: this is not a nice fic, it contains a lot of horror and grossness, and it doesn’t end even close to perfectly, but I found it to be a really brilliant read anyway—NOT for when you want happy Squall/Rinoa)

Wayward Tempest writes quite a bit and I like their stuff a lot.

Remember by baconfat - (Most of their work tends to be Seifer/Zell, which is what I know them for best, but I remember liking this Squall/Rinoa one.)

invocations writes gorgeous FFVIII fic.

irishais is the same, utterly gorgeous writing.

measuringlife has also written several Squall/Rinoa shortfics that I absolutely adored.

Do you have any favorite mamoru usagi fanfictions?

I do, yes!  I have a small list of fic recs at Fleeting Fancies (which I’ve been slacking on, I know, shut up!) and mklutz has a really nice list of SM fic recs (which are often Mamoru/Usagi-centric) on her site as well.  Currently, I’ve been enjoying everything by fated-addiction @lj and tosca1390 @lj, who both write stunningly gorgeous fic.

The only caveat I’ll give you is that they may well ruin you for the rest of the fandom.  :<

The final scene of episode 3, where Usagi is writing a love letter to Tuxedo Mask (because it’s better to write a love letter to someone you actually want to give it, rather than some nebulous future boyfriend) and Naru snatches it away out of curiosity.

It’s a cute scene by itself, but it also made me think that, oh, man, after Stars, Usagi is going to write Mamoru SO MANY LETTERS.  She’ll leave them EVERYWHERE, on his pillow, in his backpack, under his toaster, curled up in his toothbrush holder, in his car, in his jacket pockets, EVERYWHERE.  So that he’ll always get these little love notes she leaves for him to tell him how much she misses him, even when they’re apart for more than five minutes.

Which is a little much, Mamoru sort of doesn’t like it because he doesn’t like the idea that Usagi still feels the need to pour that much energy into keeping connected to him, because they already are connected, because they’ll always be together, but they also make him smile, because each one is like a little piece of her that he can take with him.  So he keeps them in his coat pocket for the day and probably has a box somewhere that he saves them in, but in the meantime he gently teases her about leaving so many, because it’s cute to watch her get all worked up about it, and then eventually she doesn’t need to quite so often and that’s fine, too.

Ugh, I clearly need to get off the internet if I’m half-writing fic in my tumblr posts.

I could dig that kind of fic. As long as they were in character because I rarely read any SM ff because of how horrible they usually are. Ugh.

Finding readable Sailor Moon fic is really goddamned hard.  I know a lot of it is because it’s an older series and a lot of the writers are working off the dubbed version of the anime and so forth, but I’ve been in this fandom for a long goddamned time and I still have only, like, a page worth of fic recs for it.

I want to believe that the manga’s release will help with that, but considering how much ooc characterization is floating around, I have kind of resigned myself to only reading fic from people I trust.  Most of whom are long out of the fandom.  orz orz orz

/CRABBY VENTING ABOUT THE FANDOM

(Ugh, what I wouldn’t give for some readable Rei/Minako fic, but I AM NOT GOING TO BE THE ONE VENTURING INTO THE SALT MINES THIS TIME.  I HAVE DONE MY TIME.)

The search for quality Sailor Moon fanfiction, especially new stuff, is always daunting. It sucks that at this point I’m reduced to just reading old stuff (which actually doesn’t suck so much because the good old stuff is GOOD), and then spending the rest of the time harrassing authors to finish things they haven’t touched in years. When someone throws me a bone and updates a chapter after forever, OMG NOTHING COMPARES TO THAT FEELING OF PURE EXCITEMENT.

This reminds me that I wanna start doing some fic recs soon and hopefully others will join so we can get a good list going.

The one positive thing is that at least there are a handful of good long fics in the fandom!  And I imagine there are some out there that I have yet to find, it’s just… really daunting to look at those pages and pages and pages of results on FFNET and think, oh, lord, why can they not let me ~*magically*~ filter out the crap?

What I have found so far and liked is up on my recs page, but it’s nowhere near as long as I’d like it to be.  Some of my favorites:
→  Relativity by Sexylon
→  912 Going on 14 or The BIG Wish by Lilac Summers (anything by Lilac Summers is pretty good, though!)
→  What to Do with Daylight by Celeste Goodchild
→  Crystal Weaver Saga by E.Liddell (warning: it’s based on the dub, but finds a way to turn Zoisite back into a dude and has a very complex mythology for the revival of the Dark Kingdom—if you can get over the dub names/personalities to some extent and a warning for “I don’t know how well this stands the test of time”, I remember liking it when it first came out)
→  Empire of the Sun by Sophia Prester (it kills me that this fic isn’t finished because Sophia is a gorgeous writer)
→  Conversation by Sean Montgomery
→  mklutz has a fic recs page as well that I found useful.
→  aishuu has done some Sailor Moon fic reccing as well.

I’d love to see what fic recs you have, too!  I NEED NEW FIC TO READ PLZ.
