YOU JUST MADE MY FUCKING DAY. I’ve been grumpy ever since some personal shit and then hitting my post limit but OH GOD YOU HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD. EXACTLY ALL OF THAT. YES.

Ugh, I’m sorry about the crap day, those always suck.  But I am delighted to have been of help to, especially since OH MY GOD I HAVE SO MANY FEELINGS IN ME THEY HAVE TO COME OUT SOMETIMES OR THEY WILL CONSUME ME and sometimes I worry that I’ll make absolutely everyone roll their eyes at me.

Though, seriously, this fandom better start coughing up some fucking Thanos plotfic because I REALLY NEED THAT SHIT DEALT WITH, since I doubt they’d focus that much on Loki in Thor 2, even if I assume he’ll still be in it.  I really do strongly want to believe that they’re leaving the redemption door open for Loki on purpose, because a lot of his motivations don’t really make sense to me unless Loki’s motivations were hardly what he presented on the surface.  I mean, why Midgard?  Loki should have no reason to want to rule Midgard, not when all his issues are tied up with Asgard and maybe Jotunheim.  But also, you could SEE how badly he was forcing himself to stay on track with this, how he had to keep pushing himself to go through with it, how it often nearly seemed like it was more about wanting Thor to think that Loki wanted to kill him, rather than that Loki actually did want to kill him.

Loki’s fucking FACE when Thor’s right there, telling him to COME HOME, how he can’t come up with smooth, glib responses to Thor’s sincerity.  How he can’t even maintain his Cheshire grin when Thor tells him to COME HOME because Loki is and always will be his brother.  The only time Thor is in real danger (and, hell, we don’t even know that it really would have killed Thor if he hadn’t found a way out, Asgardians may well actually be immortal from that kind of damage) is when Loki is at a distance from him.

But mostly it’s Thanos.  The movie takes pains to show us that Loki is in bad shape at the beginning of the movie, that he genuinely fears Thanos and the Chitauri if he fails in this plan.  Why make a point of Loki’s fear and the dangers of what he’s doing if it doesn’t mean anything?  He hasn’t fallen into their hands at the end of the movie, so it wasn’t a foreshadowing of the horrible fate that awaited him.  It’s there to show Loki’s desperation and, sure, maybe it’s just “Look how evil Loki is!  What bad choices he makes!  He keeps bad company, that’s how much of a bad guy he is!”  But I like to think the script is smarter than that.  Any script that makes an amazing parallel out of Bruce and Tony’s friendship, how those two geniuses and their self-control issues (Bruce’s rage, Tony’s whole… thing, even if not strictly alcoholism) without beating it over the head, I like to think that script was making points with Loki, too.

And then there’s that fucking spear, the one that seemed designed to point out, hey, look, I fuck people up when they hold me in their hands/almost like it amplifies all those terrible, violent urges.  The one that Loki carried around for god knows how long.  Sure, he’s a Norse god, but why put that scene in?  JUST to show that Bruce was on the verge of Hulking out?  Or more?  I’m giving it a lot of side-eyes.

This all isn’t to be a Loki apologist, by the way.  He made some truly shit decisions and he got a lot of people killed, killed a lot of people himself.  He is severely fucked up and that doesn’t excuse him from his actions.  But I don’t care for villains who are just pure evil, that’s not engaging or interesting.  What IS interesting are the people who took some bad wrong turns, who walked down a terrible path, but did so for empathizable reasons.  Who can come back, with a lot of hard work and some time.  And that’s what I am craaaaving for from this fandom.  That and a lot of hugs.

AHHH, OKAY, JUST ASSUME AVENGERS SPOILERS IN THIS POST.

I SORT OF FEEL LIKE I SHOULD APOLOGIZE FOR THIS POST, BUT I’M KIND OF NOT SORRY.  The thing that’s so tragic to me, and that scene is such an indication of it, is that Loki wasn’t entirely wrong about the sleights lain into him, but neither was he entirely right.  Odin made mistakes, all of Asgard made mistakes with him, but they also loved him, they did.  And I want so badly for ALL THE TEARFUL REUNIONS post-Avengers movies, where they sit Loki down and say, okay, yes, some bad shit happened to you, but you’re home now and you’re going to start making ammends.  We love you, you’re family, now stop getting all twisted up in your head.

And that’s why Avengers was so good for me because that’s pretty much exactly what Thor was trying to do with Loki, because he loves Loki SO MUCH and just wants him to COME HOME and I think that’s a lot of why I jumped on the Loki feels train so hard, because you could see that Thor got under Loki’s skin, but he couldn’t stop and I’m pretty sure a lot of this is HOLY SHIT THANOS WILL FUCK HIM UP IF HE DOESN’T KEEP IT ON TRACK and Loki seems to believe that, no matter what people SAY, it will always turn out badly for him, and Asgardians are not great at working around that kind of shit.  So, I dearly want Frigga to step up and be like OKAY, WE ARE GOING TO SIT DOWN AND PUT OUR CARDS ON THE TABLE, BECAUSE LOKI IS OUR SON AND WE LOVE HIM.

And then for Thanos to be like GIVE ME THE TESSERACT NOW and they all have to go to battle against him and Thor’s like LOKI GET YOUR ASS INTO THIS FIGHT NOW and Loki’s like WHAT ARE THEY SERIOUSLY FIGHTING THANOS FOR ME WAIT WHAT ARE MY FEELINGS EVEN DOING and then, voila, Loki redemption like Tom Hiddleston and THE ENTIRETY OF THE FANDOM wants.

Also a lot of hugs.  A metric fuckton of Loki hugs.  That he has to put up with until he returns them properly.  And then Thor’s like EXCELLENT I HAVE MY BROTHER AND SMARTEST PERSON IN THE ROOM AND MY FUTURE ADVISER BACK BECAUSE WE’LL BE INVINCIBLE TOGETHER WHEN I ASCEND TO THE THRONE
