I love when the anime decides to do slapstick like this, I really wish they’d done it more often.  When it wanted to be funny, it was screamingly funny!  I feel like I shouldn’t laugh at the tangle of girls on the street bouncing along like that, but I do.  Every time.  I think it’s the juxtaposition of Haruka and Michiru darting after Minako like bats out of hell, then along comes this giant mess of arms and legs, and it’s just… asl;kdfja every time!

Also, I love how even Eudial is like HOLY SHIT WHAT IS WITH THIS GIRL? when Minako made it all the way to the garage with her heart crystal ripped out.

I love how gently and carefully Usagi says that that’s great that Minako got her heart crystal, now let’s just put it back, okay… where you can just hear how delicately she’s trying to handle this, how nervous she is about her friend.  I love love love Usagi for being like, yes, yes, that’s very good, now let’s put it back before you die, okay, sweetie?

NOPE.  And then Minako giggles some more and runs off with it.

If I had to pick one scene in Sailor Moon that always makes me laugh, I would have to choose this one.  Sure, the Chibi-Usa attack jokes are always, always hilarious (god, the faces she makes!) but it’s this scene.  Usagi and Minako.  Minako, the true love of my heart.  Spending so much time obsessing over getting her heart crystal.  And now she finally has it!  Finally, she can be like everyone else!

EXCEPT NO.  DESPITE HAVING HER HEART CRYSTAL RIPPED OUT, MINAKO STILL KEEPS GOING.

The long, long pause as she bends over and clutches her crystal to her, not unlike Gollum with his precioussssss, while Usagi stands tense and worried over her… and then there’s that giggle.  I can’t even think about it without cracking up, too!

I don’t know how I managed to live my life without this deep and true love for Minako in my heart.

I don’t think I ever finished blogging about Sailor Moon episode 109, did I?

I look forward to this scene every time, how Minako is going batshit over the vitamin bottles, how there’s DRAMATIC MUSIC like always as Eudial points the gun towards her latest victim, as Minako’s heart is torn away from her.

It makes it all the better, knowing what’s coming next.

I love everything about this scene, too.  Usagi takes Mamoru’s advice to heart and rushes up to Minako with an armful of vitamin supplements, which Minako chirps a thank you for and gulps them down while Usagi encourages her.  ADORABLE BFFERY, MY LOVES.

The Inner Sailor Senshi continue to spy on them with WTF IS THIS expressions on their faces and eventually have to admit—in a hilarious moment of more chirping “pure pure pure”—that YES SHE IS TOTALLY PURE NO DOUBT ABOUT IT NONE WHATSOEVER.

Meanwhile, Haruka and Michiru are totally creepers in the bushes while staring intently at the 14 year olds, which isn’t hilarious at all!  Not even a little!

Then!  Minako and Usagi are on their way to the next place!  AND IT DOESN’T MATTER HOW MANY TIMES I SEE THIS, HOW MUCH I KNOW WHAT’S COMING.  I STILL SIT UP AND JUST WAIT FOR IT.

I know it’s getting a little ridiculous at this point, but pretty much EVERY SCENE in this episode is pure gold!  Minako is still rushing off to donate blood, while the rest of the Inner Sailor Senshi spy on her from behind the bushes (totally appropriate response, of course) and discuss whether or not they should stop her and what they’ll do when she gets her pure heart taken.

And then Artemis asks the question that everyone is kind of thinking:  If you’re trying to get a pure heart just to get a pure heart is it really even a pure heart at that point?

I love how Artemis is pretty consistently the one going NO I’M PRETTY SURE MINAKO’S JUST BATSHIT CRAZY through this whole thing.  FINALLY THEY KNOW HIS PAIN.  FINALLY THEY SEE.

This is just a cute scene from ep 109, where Usagi is still worried about Minako, even when she’s trying to give her friend some space.  I like that Mamoru is pragmatic in his advice, knowing that sometimes you just can’t stop people when they’re on a tear, so just do your best to protect them and look after them until they’re done.

Also, it’s cute to have him advise her to make sure she keeps her nutrition up if she’s donating that much blood.  Doctor!Mamoru is one of my favorite things.  (Well, okay, anyone with half a brain would go, uhhh, make sure she’s getting some nutrition back in, okay?, but I WILL STILL TAKE IT, SHUT UP.)

Minako LEAPING ALONG to go give blood while sing-songing her way there and saying OH GO AHEAD AND TAKE AS MUCH AS YOU WANT AHAHAHAHAHA while Eudial has identified a new target.  She’s not sure what type of pure heart it is just yet, but…

IT IS CALLED A “BATSHIT” PURE HEART, I’M PRETTY SURE, EUDIAL.

One of the things that always makes the anime’s cliches a lot better is that they knew when to poke fun at themselves, like with Chibi-Usa’s Pink Sugar Heart Attack and like with this scene.  Haruka and Michiru’s dramatic, pastel-colored painting-like exit is interrupted with Minako in regular style, who SENSES AN OPPORTUNITY and she is not one to let these things pass!

I love the hilarity of it, of course, and the animation on Minako as she raises her head to look SPARKLY EYED TO THE MAX at them, but I love it just for lampshading their cliches knowingly!  I laugh EVERY TIME.

Another cute moment from this episode, where Haruka and Michiru clearly do not know who they’re messing with and how seriously she is taking this.  I love seeing their reactions, like they just have no idea what the hell to make of this, and I love the yellow and blue speed blurs as Minako whips away towards the blood drive donation so fast you can’t even see her anymore.  And the determined twinkle in her eye!  The serious expression on her face!

Minako is THE BEST.  I can’t believe there was ever a time when I didn’t love her with my whole, entire heart—!
